Learners worldwide can draw, doodle and explore new ways of writing by visiting Mo’s studio virtually once a day for the next few weeks. Grab some paper and pencils, pens, or crayons and join Mo to explore ways of writing and making together.

Design Challenge: Build a Boat

Materials:

  • A variety of recyclables
  • plastic wrap
  • aluminum foil
  • straws, etc.

Process:

Use a variety of recyclables to build a boat that can hold 10+ pennies without sinking. Use the video for additional instructions.

My Dream House

Materials:

  • Small paper bag
  • newspaper or scrap paper filling
  • construction paper,
  • scissors
  • glue
  • stapler or tape

Process:

Make a 3-Dimensional Dream House. Fill a paper lunch bag with wadded up newspaper about ⅔ full, fold the top over and staple or tape closed, cut and glue construction paper to the outside of the bag, add a roof, windows, a door and other details to make it look like your dream house.

Materials:

  • pencils
  • colored pencils
  • markers

  • magazines
  • glue
  • any drawing or painting materials or collage materials

Process:

Create a work of art expressing the way you feel. It does not have to be realistic. Experiment with materials. Mail the artwork to someone special in your life as a surprise for them.

Paper Roller Coaster

Materials:

  • Construction or copy paper
  • scissors
  • glue

Process:

Create a paper roller coaster. Use one sheet of paper for the base, cut and glue long strips of paper to the base to make a roller coaster. Add as many details as possible by cutting shapes, folding and curling the paper.

Process:

Design and build a robot using the recyclables. Create sketches when planning your robot. Use your sketches to build the robot. What is the purpose of your robot? What special things can it do?
